Our Thoughts on Prison Reform in the U.S.

Today I’ll be talking about the United States, and what we think about reforming prisoners so when they leave prison, they would come out as important, valuable members of society. But I’ll talk a little bit about what Prison Reform is then giving you our opinions, okay? Let’s go.

What’s Prison Reform About?

Prison reform refers to a remedy that attacks the inefficiency of the justice system these days of a variety of states which the federal government has explored. Prison reform is focused on restoring public safety for people impacted by crime all through creating constructive culture through our prison system.

These reforms are available to try and change the fate of people sent to prison to change the lifestyles, behaviors, and attitudes available to change the level of control these inmates have and make them responsible for their actions personally. Getting these goals using prison reform falls within two different categories. These ensure appropriate access to different programs that help people get the values, training for jobs, skills, and knowledge throughout the time they are in prison.

Prison reform also provides policies to these correctional facilities that make sure that there are few barriers to maintaining a positive community. All through the period that they would be in prison. These provide different individuals with several chances to equip them with skills that would help make them have valuable relationships out of prison. Prison reforms help these inmates achieve their dreams and change their lives when they are out back in society.

These prison reforms are great essential ways to provide people in prison with ways their characters could develop, giving them education and all the things they need to know after leaving the four walls of the jail. This programming type is provided in different prisons. Prison reforms include training people in the following areas of life;

  1. Religious programming
  2. Substance abuse support
  3. Mental health aid
  4. Family management classes
  5. Life skills
  6. Employment programs
  7. Educational development
  8. Workforce development

These programs help the inmates with these areas of life listed above by helping them with the aid of organizations in society. These organizations include a non-profit that provides programming in federal and state prisons like Hudson Link, Miles of Freedom, and The Last Mile.

Our Thoughts on Prison Reform in the U.S.

Finally, you get to know our thoughts on Prison Reform in the United States. Well, it is a great idea. You can’t imagine if you send a thief or someone who commits different crimes back to society after being imprisoned to do good automatically. One needs to use these prison reform strategies to teach them and make them know the importance of being good people in society. This is also a solution to one of the ineffectiveness of the justice system. This way, they leave prison as better, more mature people. This way, the society would be exited they are coming back because they would help the community prosper.

Why Does My Dog Eat Grass?

Hello there. Today I’ll be talking about the reasons you have a dog that loves to eat grass. I’m sure you might be there wondering which type of dog do I have. You might even be unhappy, too, with the fact that your dog eats grass. Well, don’t stress your mind too much. It is a good thing when your dog eats grass. Let me tell you how and why.

Why Do Dogs Eat Grass

Dogs eat grass for various reasons. Dogs consume grass because they want to add some fiber to their diet. They do this to make themselves vomit, especially when they are not well. They eat grass when they are bored for it to serve as a distraction. They also eat grass when they feel they are not eating healthy meals.

What are the health benefits of dogs eating grass

These grasses have very high amounts of dietary fiber. Many dogs consume grass because they want to close a hole in their feeding desires. If you are not giving your dog a great diet, they could be consuming grass to get themselves some more roughage.

What is Roughage?

Roughage refers to the thing that aids in stimulating the intestinal tract, which is an essential part of the diet of dogs. Giving your dogs a diet with meals already prepared has a lot of fiber, but they do not have a high amount of roughage.

Do you know your dog could consume/eat grass simply because they enjoy it and nothing more? Your dog might enjoy the texture and the taste, and they could be like, “why not? This could be fun to eat,” and then they have at it.

Know there’s nothing wrong with your dogs eating grass

Just have some peace of mind and don’t stress yourself. Know that your dog eating grass wouldn’t harm them. Make sure you keep your beautiful dogs far away from the grass that has chemicals or pesticides. Never let them consume grass from fields that just got mowed. That is dangerous to them cause it could cause injuries.

The only time eating grass is a problem is when they are doing it all the time.

Now, this is a problem. Whenever you have a dog that consumes grass every time, you need to do something. You could take them to the vet and ask the vet what you should do. Matters could be really bad when your dog doesn’t want to its normal meals, and all they want to eat is grass all day long. Now that’s not right. You should feed them their authentic food, and then when they start rejecting it, you get help.

Your dog might get too attached to eating grass when feeding poorly and then get used to it even after you start feeding it with a premium diet. It would be best if you found the balance for the health of your precious dog.

Can Cats Catch the Coronavirus?

In such a difficult time, there is a lot of fear and concern regarding pets and their susceptibility to coronavirus disease. This fear is not unfounded, as a study has now found that COVID-19 can be contracted by cats.

Before you panic, please remember that although cats are susceptible to the virus, they are not very susceptible as only three domestic cats have been naturally infected (one located in Belgium and the other two located in the United States). The other cats infected are cats who were experimentally infected with SARS-CoV-2. Also, there is no evidence that shows the virus can be passed from cats to people.

Therefore not only are the naturally occurring cases extremely low, but humans are also unable to get the virus from cats. It is important to know that humans can infect cats with the virus; therefore, if anyone is sick, the cat should be kept away from them as well.

What Are the Effects of COVID-19 on Cats?

Based on the evidence we have, although cats are a bit susceptible to the virus, they do not have a severe reaction the way humans do. It only seems to cause respiratory problems that they recover from in a few weeks. The cat from Belgium did develop GI (Gastrointestinal) and some respiratory problems; however, the cat had made a full recovery in nine days. The cats from the United States of America, specifically New York, both suffered from a bout of respiratory illness; however, they are also expected to recover with no lingering effects.

The cats who were experimentally infected with the virus did not develop signs of COVID-19. Rather they simply had evidence of SARS-CoV-2 in their upper airways.

How Do Cats Contract COVID-19?

Cats have been shown to contract the disease if they are in close contact with people who have the disease. The disease can spread from people to cats, but there is no evidence to show that it can spread from cats to people. Cat-to-cat transmission is also possible.

How to Keep Your Cat Safe from COVID-19

Cats tend to want free roam to wander around the neighborhood. Unfortunately, with COVID-19, this has to be curbed as much as possible. We should treat cats the same way we treat humans when protecting them from the virus. This means they should minimize contact with other cats outside the home and avoid public places.

It is important to note that masks are not for pets, and you should not attempt to get your cat to wear a mask. This can be harmful.

How to Keep My Cat Safe if I Get Sick?

If you contract the virus, try as much as possible to minimize contact with your pet. If you can, let them stay with someone else till you recover. If that is not possible, ensure you reduce contact. Don’t let your cat lick your face or breathe in your face. It would be best if you also washed your hands before giving them food and water.

What to Do if My Cat Gets the Virus?

Cats rarely show symptoms of the virus, and they can heal safely at home. However, if you suspect your cat has gotten the virus, you may take them to a veterinary clinic. It is important that you do not attempt to abandon or rehome your cat in this situation because stress could affect its ability to heal.

Should U.S. States Have Lifted Face Mask Mandates So Soon?

Governors from Texas and Mississippi have announced that they would be rescinding the use of a state-wide mandate, which would allow restaurants and businesses to return to their full capacity during March. This statement comes just after the number of infection cases grew higher than they were before in the previous months. Just after the states of Iowa, North Dakota, and Montana also decide to lift the order of using a face mask, these states are responsible for applying several national and international health recommendations.

Then other states like, Alabama, and Utah also decides to cancel the use of a facemask in April, this would make residents of these states left to not using facemasks. However, governors of these states urge residents that although they might have lifted the ban, all residents should ensure that they take precautions. This gives out mixed messages, which could be very confusing because lifting mandates of using face masks contradicts the public health recommendations which were created to prevent the spread of the virus.

What happens to individuals with responsibilities?

Misleading information from the state leaders telling its residents that there won’t be any mandate in wearing a face mask, but people are advised to wear a face mask as a precaution can be very confusing. The mandate of wearing a face mask is bound to fall in the long run, but the result would be less when it comes to reducing the spread of COVID 19 in public places.

Are residents of those states safe from COVID 19?

The simple answer is “no” because the misleading information about the easing of face masks would only make people feel safe around the virus. However, new daily cases of infected people have shown to have increased in the U.S, most especially in Texas. Sadly there are reported cases of different variant of the COVID 19 virus that is starting to spread. So wearing a face mask give you a high chance of reinforcing safety and pro ting yourself from spreading the virus. While there hasn’t been any state that has been vaccinated yet, the state of Texas and Mississippi have a very long way to go, while they rank 44th and 45th respectively.  Several studies show that while the mandate of using a face mask was in place, there was a decline in the infection rate compared to when the mandate was dropped. This only shows that the general public shouldn’t just listen to whatever news you hear out there, you also need to realize how you would be affected.

Public health still tells people that regardless of being vaccinated, it is recommended that you still wear a face mask and also practice social distancing and use a personal hand sanitizer to avoid the spread of the coronavirus to others who may not be vaccinated. Public health ensures to make the process work so that there would be consistency in obeying the safety of other individuals.

Our Opinion on How America Handles Refugees

Over a couple of years, the United States of America has always opened its borders in accepting refugees from other countries, maybe due to individuals who may be fleeing persecution or for those whose country is at war. America has been home to thousands of refugees all over the world. During World war II, America welcomed individuals who were escaping from communist in Europe and Asia, the United States has tried its best to protect refugees who are under the International Humanitarian Law. Right from the year 1980, the United States government moves several ad hoc approaches which is a standardized system that is used for vetting and accepting refugees, and these systems are still used today.

Recently, the number of the United State refugee program has begun to fluctuate. However, the war that broke out in Syria has resulted in a huge spike in the number of the immigration program. Such migration has increased the scrutiny of policymakers in the Middle East during the administration of Barack Obama. However, during the tenure of Donald J. Trump the scrutiny had been banned, therefore refusing to accept some refugees from certain countries.

How many refugees are allowed into the United State of America?

The number of refugees that have been admitted into the country has greatly reduced from 200,000 in 1980 to 22,500 around 2018. The level of refugee admission has always fluctuated, especially during the collapse of the Soviet Union, but in recent times it can’t be compared. There are always annual meetings deliberating on the number of refugees that can be admitted into the country. In 2016, during the administration of President Barrack Obama, he made efforts to increase the ceiling of approved refugees allowed by five thousand, this was done to emphasize the migration crisis that was going on which was caused by the conflict in Syria. He then later proposed that the United States set a ceiling for 110,000 refugees for the year 2017.

Where are these refugees coming from?

Most of the time, the United States of America receives refugees from Asia, Africa, Europe, and also Latin America, however, the number has changed since the resettlement program was created. At the beginning of 1989, there has been an increase in refugee admittance to the U.S from the former Soviet Union Countries. During this time, The largest number of refugees come from countries like Iraq, Myanmar, Bhutan, etc. As of 2018, the countries with the highest number of refugees came from countries like Myanmar, Bhutan, Ukraine, and the DRC.

In 2017, during the administration of President Donald J. Trump, he ordered that there would be a temporary prohibition of some Muslim-majority countries like Iran, Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Somalia, etc. Trump has not been a fan of the resettlement deal that was made by Obama and the Australian government agreeing to take 1,250 extra refugees that were held in detention centers, and some of these refugees are from Iran and Somalia, making these countries affected by the third iteration of the travel ban.

Should College Be Free for Students?

The costs of education these days continue to rise. Like, I don’t get it. This keeps raising several questions about the value of college.

The president truly supports the motion which some debts would be canceled. Congress is still yet to act on it.

The debate on the effectiveness and the feasibility of college rages on.

Senator Sanders Bernie has promoted his plan for free colleges back in the year 2016. His vision is European style, where skepticism meets higher education. Here students spoof benefit using equity. All of the costs trusted to fees, books, board, and room go completely?

Since that period, the college which was supposed to be free has turned to a high policy point for democrats. There were several policy points too. There were also several progressive presidential power candidates. Lots of them adopted this in the year 2020. During his presidential campaign, Joe Biden put his plan for a free college forward. This made the community college free for everyone that was engaging in a four-year course. For families that had salaries that wouldn’t reach $125,000 a year.

Several college free plans that relied on states matched up with federal contributions to make up a hundred percent of tuition costs for state students. These covered up the college steep tuition rates. They also require lots of brand new taxes. Sanders proposes got levied on Wall Street. Biden’s proposal didn’t explain how all of these would be paid for or how much it’ll all cost.

Advantages of free college to students

The students would be excited and happy, of course. Is it easy? To score an admission and to go to school for free. That’s how things are supposed to be, though. But because of one thing or the other, it didn’t end up this way for many people who want this to happen.

My thoughts on Colleges Being free for Students

I studied Economics at the University of the state I live in. There’s no need to mention it because you wouldn’t know it. I can imagine how things would have been for my family and me if my education was free. I’m smart if I do say so myself. I deserve to have had my education paid for me by the government because I know in my gut that I’m a world-class asset. Anybody who has me knows they have something that’s brimming with quality. If colleges are free for everyone who doesn’t have the necessary amounts of funds to pay for them, then many people would be trolling into universities, and the rate of illiteracy all across the world would diminish. Who doesn’t want to live in a society filled with people all done with their higher education? Everyone looking sharp, innovative, and feeling incredible. Because their education has been paid for and settled by their lovely government, it would be a good thing, trust me. Oh well, let’s see what’s going to happen in the end. We hope the plan of Biden comes to pass.

The Internet’s Privacy Wars: Pros and Cons

Privacy ways the Internet is going through—severe topic.

Let me explain the Pros and the Cons.

List of Pros

Being protected online

Significant Pro. Because we all use social media to connect as the pandemic carries on, the data we make use of needs to be secured. It could be when we are sending our bank account details to our parents to send us some funds, or we could be sending some orders for foodstuff because life is for the living.

Freedom of speech

If you need to get something reported in your area, this could be anything. We all need our freedom of speech. If your apartment is in a place that the local government isn’t taking proper measures to hide the amount of Covid cases, you might want to tell someone about your recent opinion. You would want to do this and stay safe. This is where you’ll need the Internet to have your back.

List of Cons

After checking the pros, you’ll start thinking of all the horrors that could come from using the Internet the wrong way. The most significant things that should pop in your mind would be;

Cyberbullying

It is relatively easy to make fake IDs. Especially when you have protected privacy, you could live at the back of a mask that’s outright invisible. No one can know or see your real identity. You would be completely free to do anything you want. This would be fine, but the issue is that this cyberbullying could be done by anyone or people that we know. Sweet people could change and just become cruel.

When these people get their invisible dress, they could change your personality. Even sweet people could leave nasty or rude remarks on the Internet. If your child or you is cyberbullied, you need to find out who’s behind the keyboard.

Cybercrime

Online privacy is a beautiful thing, and it guards one against cybercrime. It also helps criminals. If somebody does not take their privacy on the Internet seriously, they could get duped by criminals that know they don’t care for their personal belongings. Online privacy protects people that make use of it. They could hide all of their details from the law and all authorities from the government.

My thoughts on the Internet’s privacy ways

Even though there are Cons to the Internet, people of the world have no choice but to continue making use of the Internet. Where are we going to? What are we going to do without the Internet? Can I teleport? Sadly I cannot, so I need to use the Internet to contact and converse with different people. So even if there’s cybercrime and cyberbullying all around the Internet, please, I can’t do without it. In the presence of a better alternative, aha, now we’re talking. But for now, I’ll still to making use of my Internet, WhatsApp, Google, and Facebook in peace. Nothing you would tell me would change my mind, so do not even stress.

Is Social Media Harmful to Young People?

Whenever anything is going on wrongly in either my siblings or me, my Mom always says we should stop social media 😂🤣😂🤣 I don’t get why, though, but oh well. I’ll be using this piece to explain the question Is Social Media Harmful to Young People?

What are the harms of Social Media?

Though social media has the possibility of negatively affecting teenagers, it could disrupt their sleeping patterns, distract them, expose them to high amounts of cyberbullying, spread rumors, and view the lives of other people, especially those that post a lot of fake lives without contentment on social media. Then there’s also a high amount of peer pressure.

Peer pressure like “See Grace has this new device, I’m going to do whatever I must to get it. And before you know it, someone is in deep trouble.”

These risks are high. Many teenagers suffer from mental health issues that they wouldn’t have suffered from in the absence of social media. This affects teenagers and kids more aged than thirteen years old.

There have been serious studies that have looked at the rate of depression and social media usage on people suffering from symptoms F anxiety. Lots of these teenagers that made use of social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Twitter were invested in these platforms emotionally. They couldn’t imagine their lives without it. This ended in giving these poor teenagers higher levels of depression and anxiety. Let’s not forget about the worst sleep quality.

What are the Benefits of Social Media on Teenagers?

Though there’s a lot of harm, I have learned to be my person through social media. It has helped me communicate with a lot of other people and for me to build my social network. These great networks help people like teenagers get the necessary support. It also helps them feel included, especially teenagers that are suffering from chronic illnesses or horrible disabilities.

These teenagers also make use of social media platforms to become entertained and to express themselves better. These platforms help teenagers know what’s happening currently, like WhatsApp status. The fastest way to find out anything that’s happening would be to check the WhatsApp status of your contacts. This also helps teenagers break the barriers to their friends geographically. These also include healthy behaviors for teenagers that are doing it right.

Social media platforms have lots of ways it saves and helps people from depression. Especially kids.

Benefits VS Harm of Social Media on Teenagers

I’ll use a scenario to explain this. I suffered from some level of depression recently, but thankfully I’m getting back on my feet. Some people suffer from peer pressure and hopelessness after watching what their mates are doing on social media. On that same social media, they get to meet people that would give them hope and give them the strength to pull through with whatever is happening in their lives. In this case which wins? Is it the harm or the benefit?

It all depends on how your child is internally and how they were trained.

Besides Being the President, What is the Hardest Job in Washington, DC?

Everyone knows the President has one of the most demanding jobs in Washington, D.C. It’s tough being the President and it’s even more difficult when you’re the President of a country as large and diverse as the United States. However, besides being the president, other jobs are competing for that spot at the top of the list of the hardest jobs in Washington, D.C. Let’s have a look at some of these jobs.

The Most Challenging Jobs in Washington, D.C.

  1. Politician’s Personal Assistant – If you’re interested in a 9-5, two weeks of vacation yearly and weekends off the job, then this is not for you. This is a 24-hour job that leaves you with very little personal time. You’ll be on the move constantly and will have to sign an astonishing number of NDA’s.
  1. Press Reporters – It’s hard to get into the press briefings, and it’s hard to get your questions answered.
  1. Secret Service Director – Directing the secret service is not as fancy as it looks in the movies. It involves a lot of paperwork, strategy and planning. To be the Secret Service Director, you must be prepared for any and all scenarios.
  1. Intern – Being an intern is the worst job to have. You do all the work of an actual employee but don’t get paid. In a huge and busy city like Washington, D.C., being an intern is even more stressful. This is the hub of politics and company executives with insane schedules. If you’re going to be an intern in Washington, D.C., you must come prepared.
  1. NFL Defense Coordinator – Any job connected to sports is either the best or worst job you could have. This is because fans are very passionate about their favourite teams and their favourite sports. For the NFL teams, the defence coordinators always catch the heat. If the team loses, the defence takes the blame. On the flip side, if the team wins the defence gets the praise.
  1. Homeland Security Secretary – The title is far more fascinating than it actually is. This is a job that requires a lot of patience. The homeland security secretary is given the job of ensuring public safety is the best it can be in America. This comes with a lot of stress. The Secretary has to enhance security, secure the borders and cyberspace, enforce immigration laws, and this has to be done while trying to pass bills that will make this easier.
  1. Member of the House of Representatives – While this is a great starting point for a political career, this job is extremely competitive and stressful. There are also elections every two years. Breaking into this space can be difficult, and you’ll always have 434 people right beside trying to keep their jobs and get re-elected. Most Representatives usually try to become Senators, but most fail.

What is Palliative Care for the Elderly vs Hospice Care?

What is Palliative Care

Palliative care is a form of healthcare that places focus on relieving the pains and strains of patients. Palliative care is usually given to people with severe and life-threatening illnesses such as cancer, dementia, heart disease, lung disease, HIV/AIDS, and kidney failure. Palliative care is not a treatment of the diseases but can occur alongside treatment. It is meant to make patients feel better and address the side effects of treatment and disease. Palliative care caters to the mental, physical, spiritual, financial, emotional, and social problems that occur when people go through such traumatic ordeals. Palliative care can start at diagnosis and last through recovery.

Benefits Of Palliative Care

  1. Palliative care helps patients to feel better about themselves, which in turn provides them with a better quality of life.
  2. Palliative care helps the families of patients to cope with stress during the treatment of the illness.
  3. Palliative care can begin at diagnosis to offer steady support for the patient.
  4. Palliative care can help patients explore beliefs that may be beneficial to them, such as spiritual beliefs.
  5. Palliative care can also help patients who need assistance with practical issues such as insurance and even medical costs.

Hospice Care

Hospice care is a type of palliative care. Hospice care, on the other hand, is the end of life care. It is also called comfort care. This is when the patient or the patient’s family chooses to stop receiving treatment. In this situation, the patient will typically have six months or less to live so the patient can decide to stop searching for a cure and focus on managing the pain and having a good quality of life till they pass on. Hospice care has four levels which are;

  1. Routine Home Care – This occurs regularly and involves the medical professional visiting the patient in their home. Focus is placed on feeling better and relieving the side effects of the disease.
  1. Continuous Home Care – This occurs when a patient needs at least 8 hours of care per day. This sort of care is usually provided by a nurse.
  1. General Inpatient Death – This occurs when symptoms have become so severe that the patient is unable to receive treatment at home; therefore, they need to be brought to a medical facility.
  1. Respite Care – Respite care is five days of respite for the family. This occurs when the family cannot take care of the patient; therefore, they will be admitted for five days to give the family time to recharge.

Benefits of Hospice Care

  1. Hospice care focuses on making the last days of the patient as pain-free as possible.
  2. Hospice care also provides relief for the family of the patient.
  3. Hospice care can also address the family’s grief at the patient’s death.

Palliative Care for the Elderly Vs. Hospice Care for the Elderly.

  1. Palliative Care for the elderly could be a great option if the older person suffers from a disease like dementia, which is not immediately life-threatening. Palliative care for the elderly will focus on providing comfort and relieving the aches of old age.
  1. Hospice Care is only for people who are at the end of their life. Therefore, if the older person is not suffering from a life-threatening disease or at the end of their life, they may not qualify for hospice care.
  1. Hospice care is always palliative, but palliative care is not always hospice care.
